This stunning, 25-story historic property in the heart of Philadelphia’s Center City first served as an office building. Its 1929 Art Deco design contained offices plus 23,000 SF of retail space and 160 parking spaces.
In 2014, a new owner wanted to convert the offices into 200 rental apartments, from studios to three bedrooms. He partnered with Delos, which produces spaces that integrate health and wellness into design and construction. The building, dubbed the Icon, is Philadelphia’s first WELL Signature property. The design darkens bedrooms enough to facilitate sound sleep, delivers purified air, precisely filters water, and helps protect against allergens and germs.
We had 12 weeks – an unimaginably short time – to choose the contemporary finishes and evocative lighting for the entire building, including its main entrance, security desk, corridors, amenity spaces, rooftop deck, and the individual apartments. We handled the entire Icon in conjunction with the architectural firm JKRP.
